100% agree on F3P / AFM.
Be interested to hear your idea(s) on battery usage.  I suspect battery technology will remedy the percieved/potential/actual issues soon enough anyway.  Rules with long term impact on the event need to consider where we are going and will be and not the status quo.  Almost by definition, in a competitive environment, the planes on the field today are not the state of art.

Dave

I think there are other ways to “skin this cat” with regard to battery usage… Definitely a positive to separate F3P-AFM into its own class but we need to ensure that it stays closely coupled to F3P itself so that the championships happen at the same time/location.  It will also allow us to evolve the AFM rules more to make it more objective versus subjective. From: Dave Lockhart <DaveL322 at comcast.net>

Subject: Re: [F3A-Discussion] Results of rules proposals for F3A, F3P, F3M and F3S Potential health issues aside, nice to see FAI for the first time in its history not obliviously rush to escalate the horsepower war.  And consideration for shipping, logistics, and expense?  Wow.... Another rarity. A small but vocal minority was pushing to include AFM as a part of the F3P WC, and even add a "smack" element to the flying.  When that topic was brought up at the post 2017 WC meeting, it was pretty soundly thrashed by a group of pilots from a wide geographic range. A couple very positive outcomes IMHO.  Regards, Dave Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5. -------- Original message --------From: Jon Lowe via F3A-Discussion <f3a-discussion at lists.f3a.us> Date: 4/29/17 9:52 AM (GMT-05:00) To: Derek Koopowitz <derekkoopowitz at gmail.com> Cc: joncarter60 <joncarter60 at comcast.net>, vellum2 at bellsouth.net, f3a-discussion at lists.f3a.us Subject: Re: [F3A-Discussion] Results of rules proposals for F3A, F3P, F3M and F3S  Hmm. So is FAI going to change the rules for F3C (helicopters) which is currently 51volts/12s, and has been for several years? Sounds like someone doesn't know what they are talking about. I'm personally ambivalent about 12s, but it sounds like the decision was not based on facts and consistency with other FAI classes. We are considering the same rule for AMA, so I was hoping for some fact based decisions from FAI. Apparently we didn't get it.Jon On Apr 29, 2017 7:56 AM, Derek Koopowitz <derekkoopowitz at gmail.com> wrote:They failed to pass the subcommittee and would not have passed a vote by the delegates.  They were then withdrawn. With regard to 12s – the EU supposedly has rules prohibiting batteries at 50+v for safety reasons.  Also, the ability to transport 12s batteries on commercial airlines is pretty close to being impossible now. From: Jon Lowe <jonlowe at aol.com>
