You were hoping for more creative replies from this group?

BTW, it's not uncommon for some power supplies to require a load to start working.  Some users put a load resistor across the output (on the inside of the power supply) so there's always a load on the system when the power supply is turned on.  Something like a 10 ohm/20 watt resistor works on a 12 volt output.
