[NSRCA-discussion] Hobby King Arcus F3A Biplane

I used D220 servos. You have to use the arms that come with the D220's. The elevator and rudder servos use extensions, but the aileron servos use real long leads. I just cut the ones off the provided servos and soldered them on the Solar.

Do yourself a favor and slip some carbon fiber tubing, the same id as the od of the pushrods, over the pushrods and CA in place. They need the stiffening. Do them all except for the aileron/servo pushrods as they are short and stiff enough. Adds maybe a gram apiece. Well worth it.

I got some 1800mah, 4s,30c Glacier packs. Right size and weight, and pretty impressive packs. Google them. I got them from a place in Ohio. I tried some 2150 packs, but they are a little heavy. Forget 3s packs. Not enough power except for cruising around.

Jon,

Just got mine in. I agree with you on the servos. What Solar servo did you use? D653?

I got one this past week. Yeah shipping was ridiculous. But the plane is very nice. Well packed and protected. Easy to put together, took about 45 minutes. Even comes with an exact Chinese copy of an APC prop. Only way to tell it's fake is it has a China hobby name on the hub instead of APC.

The think I like about this is that the control surfaces are pattern sized, not 3D sized. I haven't hooked up a receiver yet, so don't know how good the servos are. But Solar digitals in this size are about $7 apiece, and they have very good resolution.

I have a couple of 2200 3s packs I will try, and I ordered a couple of 4s packs. The manual says 3s, but the HK page says 3s or 4s. Battery compartment seems adequate for light 4s packs.

No instructions for the ESC. They do tell you how to turn off the brake should you turn it on, but nothing about setting end points, etc. It isn't labeled with a HK sticker, so I don't know what it is. Guess I'll do some online searching.

Looking forward to flying it, but weather and the F3P Team Trial this weekend are conspiring against me.

I just went to order one. Did you actually pay the $76+ shipping on the plane out of China, or did you get it from a different warehouse? I think I’ll wait for it to be available in a US warehouse.

I ordered one to play with yesterday. My guess is the servos may need replaced due to poor centering, but it's a pretty cool plane to mess around with after a pattern meet in the evenings.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Thinking of adding it to my collection.
