<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Here is Steve Kaluf's official answer. It is much
like the FCC certification sticker being required and on both the tx module and
the transmitter, and they must match. If you put a module in with a
different number, there is "LEGALLY", a problem. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>For many years, their have been radios sold in the USA
with old type acceptance numbers, as the companies didn't want to spend the
$20,000 or so per system to have them tested and approved. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Each new model radio must be certified and have is own FCC
number on it. It is a big headache, but to make it "legal" it has to be
done.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>It is also like the Hitec Spectra modules used on Futaba
8U's and 9C transmitters. There are THOUSANDS of modeler's doing this, but
it is "technically" not legal. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>However, the big thing is the crystal moving and swapping
is JUST AS ILLEGAL as any of the above items! The FCC rules state that the
xtal must not be "user accessible", so the manufacturers use a drop of contact
cement to hold them in place! In my opinion, that does not make them
legal! </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>So, what to do? It's kinda like 6 meter stuff.
It's not illegal to own it, just illegal to operate it if you don't have a
license!</FONT></DIV>

kidding..sorta. If asked I have to tell them that, unless type accepted or
