<P>I guess each individual has to deturmine if he wishes to make his destination goal to be flying in the top class in the USA or in the top class in the world. </P>
<P>Some people flying may for personal reasons wish to make Advanced or Intermediate their destination class but according to present rules they cannot they must move up according to the rules and sooner or later they will reach the Masters class ( Destination class in AMA USA) since FAI is not an AMA class Anyone can fly in FAI class at will and then move back and fly in his AMA class. AMA rules are structured in a progressive learning fashion that will help those with the will and ability to progress upward along the learning curve until they reach the final destination ( Masters) FAI has no learning curve structure, when you fly FAI you are at the final destination. </P>

<DIV></DIV>>I guess I'm just missing the point. To some, schedule and practice in intermediate is difficult, but it is not a destination class. If we fly fai at the nats as the top class, logic says that should be the only destination class, not masters. Must be some history here i'm missing.

My guess is none in Sportsman or intermediate and maybe a couple in advanced. Rest hang out in Masters/FAI... Not all are born with a silver spoon in their pocket or have the type of job that allows the large chunk of time to practice and hone the skills for FAI. This assumes you are trying to be competitive and not just hanging out.
