Another big problem with the big gassies is WHO FLIES THEM LOCALLY. In my club, it's sport fliers. Excepting for two good ones, the rest scare hell out of me.<BR>
Very dangerous. When they fly, I sit. Except, of course, when they take off after I do, which gets to your whole noise issue and lack of hearing my pattern planes.<BR>

Unfortunately, most of the sport or club fliers, go for the noise. It's NASCAR to too many of them with a big WOW factor and an adrenaline rush. The noisier the better<BR>

Folks, I think we may have been duped on this noise thing. I love my stealthy pattern plane, but nobody else does. unless I'm flying alone, nobody else cares whetehr I hear my plane or not!!<BR>

Ed, on your DIZZY flying time, I suggest you go with a Webra 145 and 16 oz tank. The most frugal set-up out there, in this size.<BR>

The problem with those DA 150's is that they draw shotgun fire and you usually only get to fly them once per field. <BR>

It's ironic that the noise issue for pattern planes of old is now the same issue for Scale Aerobatics.... The irony being that precision aerobatic planes are now soooo! quiet that we are welcomed and enjoyed. Of course we can't hear our engines so we get very good at dead stick landings....<BR>

On a more challenging note, the pattern spec's are there to be met and there for a reason. They are a competition challenge in their own right. It is the basis of the sport to produce designs and technology to met those specs. Without them i.e. if they were relaxed, we would not have developed the CF pipes, FG technology, light weight foam wings etc. There would go the fun for many of us. Take away the size and weight limits and all you get is an average plane...<BR>
