You do not need carbon fiber,
fiberglass will work fine. A light weave will be the easiest to wrap around
the stinger, use several layers of light fabric as opposed to one heavy layer.
JB weld is not so great but may be the best stuff that you have acess to.
The stinger does not get overly hot so JB stuff may be fine. In reality
most finishing resins have the same temp resistance as JB weld and will wet
the fabric much easier.

Gray Fowler
Principal Chemical

--
>Does this mean we've found something in the woods??? I hope
so!
>
>I repaired a cracked ESkorepa CF pipe with JB
weld and uniweb, which
>is a thin non directional carbon fiber product.
(It's the only kind of
>carbon fiber I have / had in the
shop)
>Anyway, here's how it went
>-cleaned it all up w/ alcohol
and maybe acetone
>-saturated the carbon cloth with JB
Weld
>-Coated the crack and surrounding area with JB weld
>-Put
the patch in place making sure there was full contact-- a couple
>wraps
of the carbon cloth as I recall
>-Wrapped that with clear plastic (a la
Monokote backing)
>- taped that solidly to maintain good
pressure
>
>Left the shop.
>
>The repair lasted 50+
flights, and when the midair happened, the
>repaired section was
unbroken -- the pipe DID break 6" on either side of
>the
repair.
>
>Hope this helps!
>
>Are you planning on
coming down this way anytime this weekend? Still
>thinking about bbq'ing
at the field one day this weekend.
>Probly won't be Friday = that'll be
