-0400
>
>Shipping in quarts will allow you to ship UPS without the
$5/gal haz-mat
>fee. Most of the time though the fuel is shipped
by motor freight, which
>has similar regs, but different fees. If
you're shipping more than
>#200lbs, (roughly 40gal), it's much cheaper
to go freight.
>
>Non of these were PowerMasters motivation
though...it was simply the fire
>code issues. They spent
considerable money revamping their assemblys to
>fit the cans from the
jugs. All cost they would have preferred to skip.
>The
benefits of size and packing just made the move more
palatible.
>
>
>-----Original Message-----
>From:

I believe that you have hit on one of the real reasons why the can .
>Becouse of the shape of the cans , more fuel can be shipped in the
same
>size or slightly larger box. Much money is saved on shipping one
box
>instead of two and the manufactor sells more fuel to the
case. Red Max was
>doing the same thing using quart size bottles
and shipping five gallons to
>the case
.
>
> Over the last few years ,
myself and a couple of other flyers have
>been buying fuel by the drum
. We tap the drum and pour all the fuel off
>into jugs at one time .
Never had any problems with the fuel in four years
>of doing this
