I do
start to see a common thread because I mostly fly at local events within 300
miles I have never ran into those problems. Events I've run we normally had a
ramrod who made sure the pilots new they were in readybox 1 , 2 , or 3. If we
saw their plane and not pilot we would start asking and searching. Granted it
does keep everyone on their toes but seems to be what is expected. Some events
only have 16 or 18 but others have 35 to 38 and still get 6 rounds in unless
weather becomes an issue. Judges are juggled in flight order and judging duties
to accommodate a quick rollover to next round of flying as much as practical.
That issue is easier to deal with a large balanced turnout and small turnouts
there is time to play/waste.

Hey Del. The biggest culprit here is:

1) The sun, in Alb 4:00 is getting dangerous and in most of the
central Tx events, getting started prior to 9:30 is pretty bad and simply
flying a sillohette.

2) We have had some pretty big contests the past 2 years

3) Pilots not being started and ready during the previous
flight and landing procedure(doesn't seem like much but 2-3 minutes per
pilot/ 15 pilots a flight line and 3-4 rounds equals1.5 hours of wasted
time or more on Sat.)

Sadly however, I've seen it becoming excepted to only fly 5 rounds rather
than pushing for 6.

I have read a couple of posts on the list about that leave me
puzzled why
some are not getting 6 rounds in at contests they
attend.

1.) The attendance is so large to not
allow everyone a chance to get
their rounds in?
2.)
Is weather the culprit?
3.) It is only a 1 day
contest?
4.) Only 1 flight line
allowed?
5.) Restrictive field not allowing flying to
start early or fly into
late afternoon?

The
only times I personally have seen contest decided on less than 6
rounds
was because of weather issues. Even with full rain day still often
get in
4 rounds.
TIA for your
replies.
