When I flew Malibus few years ago I used large O-rings. Usually two, just in case one fails. O-rings are very strong. However the #64 rubber bands is a good option too.

You guys have a lot of info to share....
> What prompted my question was the relative difference, if any, between a
> couple of #64 rubber bands, doubled, that hold the hooks in the root rib to
> the fuse. I've tested THOSE eye-hook dowels, and they don't even begin
> deforming the root rib at 35lbs. And the doubled #64's I think can't pull
> that hard...so sounds like the "hook/rubber band" retainer, although not
> high tech nor elegant, certainly is functional.
>
> Thanks guys!
>
> Bob Pastorello
> rcaerobob@cox.net
> www.rcaerobats.net
>
>
> ----- Original Message -----
> From: <JIVEY61@BELLSOUTH.NET>
> To: <DISCUSSION@NSRCA.ORG>
> Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 2004 7:17 PM
> Subject: Re: A Wing Question
>
>
> >
> > > Bob
> > The outward force of the snap roll which is probably the most outward
> force along the tube must be less than the shear point of a 4-40 screw.A lot
> of us use this to hold the wings on.
> >
> > Jim Ivey
> > > From: "Bob Pastorello" <RCAEROBOB@COX.NET>
> > > Date: 2004/07/06 Tue PM 06:55:40 EDT
> > > To: "NSRCA" <DISCUSSION@NSRCA.ORG>
> > > Subject: A Wing Question
> > >
> > > Anyone out there actually calculated (or measured) how much OUTWARD
> force is exerted on our wings during our typical stuff?
