<P>According to the FAI rulebook - the roll should be integrated with the last 45 degrees of the preceeding loop and the first 45 degrees of the following loop - the roll covers 90 degrees of looping.</P>
<P>I've worked a ton on getting the roll integrated with the loop - and think the geometry of the loops is preserved and the roll is center and covers 90 degrees. So far as scores, I seem to be getting the same scores as vertical 8s with rolls that cover far less than 90 degrees, and don't preserve the geometry of the loops.</P>
<P>I think it is mostly a lack of understanding on the part of judges - I've been asked a number of times why I don't make the roll quicker.................</P>

It was much easier to do with the other airplane--wide-bodies be good for this one! Narrow with retracts be hard(er).</FONT></DIV>

Yes, it looks natural and he was able to preserve the figure 8 shape while doing the half roll. He s tarted very early. I think possible the 45 degrees you said is correct. </FONT>

If I start it up at the 45 degree point as shown in a judges guide; I'm having a hard time making it look natur al. If I come down just before the tangent, roll with the wings vert. at the tangent and let it fall slightly as the roll is completed, it looks better. I'll keep working on it if we are truly supposed to start way up there--or is that just a REPRESENTAT ION to denote it's gotta start SOMEWHERE b4 the tangent? To do it the way it's depicted--you are in effect catching the bottom of a knife edge loop and the nose would actually be pointed slightly positive to the horizon.
