I can only ride one horse at a time. I've come to the conclusion that,
if I were to go electric, I would have to dispense with all my glow
stuff. And, considering that the battery packs are rumored to be as
much as $750 per, and the motors seem to be as expensive as the glow
engines I'm running, it would seem that the break-even point for cost,
(if there is one<G>) would be so far down the road as to be
impractible. If and when electrics get extremely popular, the glow
equipment will lose what resale value it has, making the financial gulf
even wider. Plus, it is also rumored that the operational life of the
packs are nowhere near the cyclic ability of the lesser stressed forms
of battery technology.
If someone has started in electrics from the git-go, and they decide
they want to go pattern, the jump in technology/price may be
considerably smaller. Depending, of course, on battery cost, which
will be determined, among many other factors, on how many packs this
individual feels they need, and the motor cost. It very well could be
the way to go for that individual. And, it follows, that the dedicated
battery flyer, who has become interested in pattern, would naturally
look for an electric outlet. (Har!)
I do believe that there are electrics in pattern in the future, just
not probably in my future. And, I am reminded that battery techhnology
is an industrial segment that, right now, is in a state of heavy flux
and research, and movement forward.
That's as far as my crystal ball reaches, right now! And, it's worth
what most opinions are worth.
