Canopies are easy to cut differently and change the shape. Fiberglass cowlings
are not. Look and see what you need to do. Maybe just maybe the paper is off and
the parts are the right size to fit the cowl. If not then splitting the foam
parts down the middle and using some super soft 3/16" balsa as a back bone will
work really well. Just glue together with wood glue (titebond) or the likes and
keep it all light.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Plan ahead and build from the cowl dimensions.
Don't get the wood parts all done then try to figure out how to make the cowling
fit. Just over or undersize the wood parts to match the cowls needs. On curve
areas that need shaping...Mount the cowl all up and then sand and shape to the
cowl.</FONT></DIV>

as they go through that big Kinkos copy machine. It gets the paper really
hot. 3/16" sounds like a bunch but you never know. I would just scale the
plans back a little bit so that your already build parts will

<DIV>Hello all, it building season again.About a year ago I purchased 2
sets, of RCM L'ESSENCE 2</DIV>
<DIV>gas pattern plane plan#1323. Designed by Gerry Dale,check out RCM's
May 2003 issue for</DIV>
<DIV>construction article.The basic construction materials,
is balsa,hardwood,ply and white foam.</DIV>
<DIV>After paying well over a $160.00 dollar for 2 sets of ,wing,stab
and turtle deck parts.The</DIV>
<DIV>construction began, after sheeting all the foam parts with 1/16 balsa
sheeting.The front turtle</DIV>
<DIV>deck, was then placed over the plans, for the canopy hatch mounting
framing.To only find out</DIV>
<DIV>that the turtle deck was to small, by about 3/16". So at this point,
I placed the rear turtle deck</DIV>
<DIV>over the plans, an once again to small. So I contacted, the company
that cut the foam parts.</DIV>
<DIV>To express my dislike,on the work that was done.I was told, that the
parts were cut from the provided templates, that were on to the plans.
After some measurements were taking,the four</DIV>
<DIV>templates for cutting the foam turtle deck, front and rear,are to
small. To verify this, I contacted</DIV>
<DIV>a few pattern flyers, from the Kansas area, that are flying the
L'ESSENCE 2. And they had the</DIV>
<DIV>same problems. That I'm have with the turtle decks. They had to
cut,the turtle decks a few times by enlarging the templates to fix the
problem.</DIV>
