<DIV>Bob, </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I remember your name but I can't see your face. 10 years is a
long time. I dropped out of pattern for about 7 years. As you can
tell from my discussion I've been having a little motor trouble in the 2 years
I've been back. I was going to go electric last year but Jason Shulman
advised me to wait a year. I had another frustrating year with
glow. Things still haven't settled down in electric but I think they are
at the useable stage. I know by next spring what I get now will be "last
years stuff" and the new stuff will be even better. That will be true
every year for the forseeable future. It's kinda like computers.
Will today's computer work well for you? Absolutely. If you wait a year
will it be faster, cooler, better and cheaper? Of course it will. So the
answer to the question as to when you should buy a new computer is: when you
need one. Yes you could wait and get a better one for less money next
year but you will deprive yourself of a years enjoyment of the good one you
can get today. I'm 48 years old now. How many years can I continue
to fly competitively. Life is short. It's only money. What
the heck, go electric.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>As far as using last years stuff, when I flew Bob Mairs Eclipse at the D4
finals it was with the 6000mah batteries which are "last years stuff."
The plane had far superior power and throttle response to any glow motor I've
had. I hear "this years" 5300mah packs provide even better
power. As far as things being settled in glow, when has that ever
happened? I just bought the new YS 160 DZ a month ago. Had to wait
to get it even. I just heard that the sponsored pilots at the worlds
were using the new YS 170. So much for keeping up. Craig</DIV>

<DIV>Bob Richards here. Don't know if you remember me or not, I think we met
at the Nats in either '93 or '95.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Very interesting comments you had on electrics vs glow. Since I
am thinking of getting back into pattern, I've been kinda stradling the
fence a bit. I'm just uncertain about electrics, afraid to put a large
investment into it especially since the technology is improving so rapidly.
I'd like for things to settle down a little first.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I'm interested in what you end up purchasing for an electric system,
and how well it works. I would like to be informed, either on or off list,
with your progress.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Good luck!!!</DIV>
